Community: Located in Northeast Kansas, along US-36, Seneca is a beautiful and well-kept city lying within in the picturesque Nemaha River Valley. Seneca is a comfortable travel distance from many destination sites and an international airport (KCI).

Family-centered, the City features modern K-12 schools, a K-8 parochial school, a full-service, modern hospital, and complete recreational facilities and programs. (Current building projects include $24M in school upgrades and expansion, and $34M in hospital renovations/improvement.)

Organization: A ‘City of the Second Class’ (Kansas statutes), Seneca operates under the Mayor/Council/Administrator form of government; the mayor is elected to two-year term, and the six council members (two from each of the three wards) are elected to overlapping four-year terms.

The City of Seneca employs 19 full-time staffers, and provides a full range of city services, including electric, water and sewer utilities. The city’s all-volunteer fire department has 28 members; full-time (24/7) EMS services are funded and managed by Nemaha County.

With a consistently low and stable mill levy rate (currently 32.6 and has not varied more than ½ mill over the last ten years), and  with a total assessed valuation over $27M, the City is in great financial condition.

Experience:  The ideal candidate should have experience working in a municipal organization, or in a similar situation. City ‘CEO’ experience is preferred, but not necessarily required. Candidates should be able to demonstrate specific city-government education and/or acquired knowledge. Experience and expertise in budgeting, planning and zoning, and economic development is highly desired [position will be responsible for all of the above duties].

Education: Minimum Bachelors’ degree; MPA or similar degree preferred. [Specific experience could be considered in lieu of education credentials.]

Salary Range: $80,000–$110,000, depending upon qualifications and experience. A negotiated employment contract will be offered upon selection, including a full range of benefits.

Patrol Officer, Seneca Police Department

The Seneca Police Department is looking for a proactive self-starter to join the Seneca Police Department.

TYPE:  Full Time

SALARY:  $17.00/Hr


Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent, a good driving record. Must be 21 years of age and have no criminal history.  KLETC certification and prior law enforcement experience preferred but not required.

Applicants will be expected to pass a pre-employment drug test, background check, physical exam.

All City employees are required to live within a 15-min response time to Seneca within 60 days of hiring.
